PART-TIME POSITION AVAILABLE

TITLE:                                   After-School Program Youth Counselor
at James P. B. Duffy School No. 12

ACCOUNTABILITY:           Reports to After-School Program Manager

JOB SUMMARY:                 This position provides Program participants in grades Kindergarten through Sixth with cultural, educational and recreational after-school activities reflective of the Search Institute Youth Assets and Competencies.  The duties of this position will be:  to provide assessment, instruction and referrals as needed; develop and maintain positive,  open communication with the program participants, day school staff, and families;  provide daily cultural, educational, and recreational enrichment activities; provide homework and test preparation assistance; assist with dinner, dismissal procedures and clean-up; complete all necessary paperwork related to the position; ensure the quality standards of SPCC, the program's funders and school officials are met.

HOURS:                     Up to 16 hours per week during school year
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri: 2:00-5:00pm and Wed: 1:00-5:00pm

  



SALARY RANGE:                $8.00 to $10.00 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS: An associate's degree in human services or a related field, or significant experience working with children, families and community resources.  Must be familiar with child development and possess group facilitation skills.  Able to interact well with children and parents, school and agency personnel, volunteers, referral sources and the public; excellent communication skills are required. Conduct continuous upgrading of professionalism by attending monthly staff meetings, workshops and seminars.  Applicant will complete Agency Confidentiality Agreement, Medical Clearance, State Central Register Clearance Form, Criminal History Review, NYSOCFS fingerprinting and mandated training, plus regular PPD testing for tuberculosis.

2 FULL TIME POSITION AVAILABLE

TITLE:                       Social Worker – Building Healthy Children Program

STARTING SALARIES RANGE:   Full Time – Starting at $32,000


JOB SUMMARY: Participates as a partner in a collaborative effort providing home based social work services to teen parents and their families including; parenting education utilizing the Parents As Teachers Curriculum, educational support and employment readiness services.  Assist in program development efforts.  Represent SPCC interests in the community.  Perform related work as required. Start date in scheduled for 9/14/09.

QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree in Social Work, Counseling or related field licensure obtainment within 1 year.  Applicants must be familiar with the psychosocial aspects of child abuse and neglect, family systems, teen parenting and foster care preventive casework.  Applicants must have the ability to relate well to other professionals and individuals with varied socio-economic backgrounds.  Applicants must possess creativity, humor and the ability to deal with crisis situations.  Prefer previous experience working with teen parents, Child Welfare Systems and/or the Parents As Teachers parenting education curriculum.  Continuous professional upgrading, attending of available workshops and seminars is expected.  Applicant will complete Agency Confidentiality Agreement, State Central Register Clearance Form and PPD testing.  Applicant must possess own vehicle, valid NYS driver’s license and Agency-required levels of automobile liability insurance coverage.
