WIC offers nutrition education, general health education, and breastfeeding support. WIC checks for specific food items are provided at each appointment and can be redeemed at contracted grocery stores.  WIC foods include milk, juice, cereal, cheese, peanut butter, dried peas/beans, and eggs.  Infant formula is available for those who supplement breastfeeding or choose not to breastfeed.  Tunafish, carrots and extra foods are added to the food package for breastfeeding women.

Nutritionists/dietitians provide nutrition/health assessments and counseling.  Referrals to other community health and human service agencies are provided as needed.  Several Certified Lactation Counselors and Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are on staff to offer breastfeeding support.  Hospital grade Electric breast pumps are available at no charge to enrolled breastfeeding women on a limited basis.  Manual breast pumps are also available to women when considered necessary.

WIC has been shown to improve the health of pregnant women, new mothers and their infants and children. The foods provided through WIC are a good source of essential nutrients that are often missing from the diets of women and young children. WIC participants have longer healthier pregnancies and fewer premature births.

Eligible women, infants and children must reside in New York State and meet income eligibility guidelines.
Many families enrolled in Medicaid, Food Stamps, TANF, are income eligible for WIC.
See the table below for income guidelines.
