TITLE: Part-time Family Counselor, Teen Age Parent Support Services Program (TAPSS) – 20 hrs/week; flexible schedule
JOB SUMMARY: Provide comprehensive, relationship driven, culturally responsive home-based individual counseling and case management services to teen parents and their families, many of whom have children at risk of foster care placement. Provide parenting education utilizing the Parents as Teachers Curriculum that is focused on improved parent-infant/toddler relationship and supporting child development. Assist with support and educational groups for teen parents. Fulfill all program objectives as contracted by the funder(s). Perform related work as well. This position includes receiving weekly individual and group reflective supervision to support best practice and professional development, requiring self-reflection.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred in social work, or a related field, with a minimum of one year’s experience working with children and families. Applicants must be familiar with the psychosocial aspects of child abuse and neglect, family systems and foster care preventive casework. Applicants must have the ability to relate well to other professionals and individuals with varied socio-economic backgrounds. Applicants must possess creativity, humor, and flexibility. Applicants must be able to deal with crisis situations, prioritize and have strong time management skills. Previous experience with Child Welfare Systems and/or the New York State “Connections” computer system is considered a plus, as is familiarity with infant, young child and adolescent development, and Infant Mental Health principles and practices. The ability to serve Spanish-speaking clients is also a plus.
